Biology Major: Life Science Track
Share your passion of biology with future generations.
Our life science track, part of our biology major, is for students majoring in secondary education with a life science/biology licensure focus. While pursuing a double major in life science and secondary education is optional, this track provides an in-depth exploration of the subfield, preparing you to teach biology, zoology, and general science in grades 5-12 as a middle or high school teacher.
This track also puts you on the right trajectory if you’re interested in becoming a microbiologist or biophysicist, and opens doors to various other professions within this specialization.
At Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, our comprehensive biology major examines our living world, spanning topics like cellular and molecular biology to chemistry and physics. Within this track, you’ll dig even deeper and explore physiology, genetics, and cell biology. You’ll gain invaluable hands-on experience in experimental techniques, data collection, and analysis, all within our modern and cutting-edge laboratories.
Whether you desire a background in life science or aspire to share your passion for science with a classroom of your own, we’ll help you reach your goals. Our dedicated biology professors and faculty are eager to guide you in your study of the living world, empowering you to change it for the better.
On our Winona Campus, you’ll discover more than biology and the sciences. You’ll find a welcoming, vibrant, and supportive community that appreciates the little things and celebrates the major milestones of your Saint Mary’s journey. Connect with like-minded peers who share your passions, creating unforgettable experiences whether in the lab, around Winona, during a study abroad adventure, or simply walking across the plaza together.
We invite you to experience more than you’ve ever imagined. By starting at Saint Mary’s in Winona, Minnesota, you’ll discover opportunities that will help you explore the world, see it, and ultimately, make a positive difference in it.
