Explore Our Online Master’s Degree in Teaching Program

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a teacher? If you have a bachelor’s degree, you can — and you can get started in the classroom right away.

How? In Minnesota, you can be hired as a teacher if you already have a bachelor’s degree, and you can teach while working toward your M.A. in Teaching, thanks to the state’s tiered licensure system. Our online degree program at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota makes it convenient for you to learn while you teach.

Our online M.A. in Teaching program is for individuals with bachelor’s degrees who want to become teachers. In most cases, students in this program have been hired or are already serving as Tier 1 or Tier 2 teachers in Minnesota, and our program provides the required training to become a fully licensed Tier 3 teacher. In as little as two years, you can complete the coursework for your Tier 3 license, leaving only six additional credits to earn your master’s degree.

Students in this online master’s degree program earn a teaching degree that places them in classrooms and exposes them to different teaching styles and lesson plans. They are exposed to a wide variety of subject matter, in both the elementary and secondary level tracks. In addition, our students explore the subjects and content in which they are most interested, and in which they may want to specialize.

The student teaching experience is full-time and under the supervision of a cooperating, licensed teacher at the worksite and a supervisor from Saint Mary’s. For one entire semester, the student is responsible for teaching in a designated school and classroom. This invaluable experience helps build confidence and your teaching portfolio.
