Pursue a Doctorate Degree in Leadership With Our Programs

If you are working in an educational setting, you likely have ideas for change, such as improving teaching, training, or professional development programs; or reforming educational systems. While the work of education often is performed collaboratively, positions of leadership are the key to the implementation of new ideas and initiatives.

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota offers two doctorate degrees in education programs for students seeking to earn leadership credentials, an Ed.D. in Education Leadership and an Executive Doctor of Education in Leadership. Here, we discuss how these programs prepare students to become leaders and make impactful changes in the workplace.

Are You an Education Professional?

These doctoral programs in education are ideal for education professionals. Scholarship often points the way to new models for teaching and educational initiatives. It outlines how to create more inclusive learning environments, and where resources should be added or subtracted. Strong leadership skills are vital in transforming education. Our doctoral degrees in education can help you become the leader needed to pave the way.

Whether your work is in institutions and schools, nonprofit organizations, or the business world, the coursework and class discussions will be stimulating, illuminating, and worthwhile. Graduates in both programs earn an Ed.D. However, admission to the Executive Fast Track program requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in a leadership position.

Become an Effective Leader in Education

Experienced faculty mentors work with doctorate students to help further develop their leadership abilities, including:

  • Engage in complex critical thinking and discussion
  • Adopt leadership roles throughout an organization
  • Understand and promote cultural competence
  • Foster learning and compassion

Earn Your Doctorate Degree in Education

Applicants to both doctorate degrees in education programs must have already earned a master’s degree and must complete an interview with the program administrators as part of the admissions process. The two Ed.D. degree programs in education offered at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota share many goals, however, there are important differences.

Ed.D. in Education Leadership

In this online program, classes are held virtually, with three annual in-person weekend residencies, including a five-day residency during the summer semesters.

Executive Ed.D. in Leadership (Fast Track)

Designed for professionals who have worked for at least a decade in leadership positions, the fast-track, two-year doctorate program is focused on project-based learning, including a capstone project. There are no dissertations or comprehensive examinations. The classes and discussions are all provided online.
