Elementary Education Major: Social Studies Endorsement

Explore the world through your students' eyes as a teacher.

While pursuing Minnesota licensure for K-6 grade instruction, you can add a social studies endorsement for teaching at the middle school level, grades 5-8.

At Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, you’ll not only develop a solid foundation in social studies but will also learn how to effectively apply your knowledge in a middle school classroom setting.

Our curriculum covers a wide range of elementary education courses and explores social studies topics including geography, religion, historical thinking, and developmental psychology. Enhance your academic journey by participating in a study abroad program, which enables you to share with future students about the cultures and historical sites you have visited, sparking further curiosity and a passion for learning about the world.

Here, our distinguished faculty, enriched with extensive practical experience, will serve as your guides in nurturing essential virtues such as wisdom, patience, zeal, and generosity. These values, deeply rooted in our Lasallian Catholic heritage, are integral to becoming an effective teacher in today’s complex learning environment

Join us on our Winona Campus as you learn from our distinguished faculty, strengthen your character, and embark on a teaching career that will empower students to think and see beyond their own backyard. Our world will flourish.
